Are you still collecting CPD points?
The HCPC does NOT have a specific point-based system for CPD, unlike some other regulatory bodies. Instead, they focus on the quality and relevance of your CPD activities.
What are the hcpc standards I need to meet?
The hcpc has 5 CPD standards. They include:
- Maintain detailed, accurate CPD records.
- Engage in diverse CPD activities relevant to current or future practice.
- Prioritise CPD that enhances practice quality and service delivery.
- Ensure CPD benefits service users.
- Provide a written CPD profile, supported by evidence, upon request.
How can I ensure that my CPD is driving continuous professional development?
Standard 1
- Keep a list of all your activities
- Do not have a gap of more than 3 months of CPD activity
Standard 2
- Maintain a mixture of learning activities that are relevant to your current field of work or future aspirations.
- Make them enjoyable, link with colleagues if you learn well in a team, or can share information.
- Please look at the numerous examples on the hcpc activity list
Standard 3
- Align with Organisational Goals: Identify skill gaps and choose CPD that directly addresses them.
- Focus on Impactful Learning: Opt for active, practical, and measurable learning activities.
- Foster a Culture of Learning: Encourage leadership support, time allocation, and knowledge sharing.
Standard 4
- Consider Service User Needs: Prioritise CPD that improves understanding of user needs and enhances service delivery.
- Evaluate and Reflect: Regularly assess the effectiveness of CPD and make necessary adjustments.
Standard 5
- Plan your CPD and by working on points 1-4, you should feel more at ease with an audit should you be selected.
Planning Your CPD: A Concise Guide
- Self-Assess: Identify strengths, weaknesses, and development needs.
- Set SMART Goals: Create specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound goals.
- Choose Learning Activities: Opt for a mix of formal, informal, and self-directed learning.
