James J Welch BSc (Hons), MSc, RcPod

With over two decades of experience, James Welch is both the Company Director and Lead Podiatrist at Ablefeet Ltd and an Advanced Specialist Podiatrist in the NHS, focusing on Musculoskeletal Biomechanics and Paediatrics.

James’s commitment to advancing the field is evident in his extensive academic background, which includes a BSc(Hons) Podiatry from UCL (2001) and a Masters degree in the Principles of Podiatric Surgery (2018), where his dissertation explored the role of steroid injections for plantar fasciitis.

Widely recognised as a national leader in children’s foot and lower limb health, James currently chairs the Children’s Podiatry Special Advisory Group—a role that cemented his status as a key specialist in hypermobility, flat feet, and paediatric heel pain. This expertise earned him the Gold Medal award (2023) from the Royal College of Podiatry. His recent published research (2023-2025) covers joint hypermobility, children’s chronic lower limb pain, and calcaneal apophysitis.

James’s specialist knowledge in sports injuries, children’s foot health, and routine podiatry is highly sought after, resulting in regular referrals from local GPs, surgeons, physiotherapists, and coaches. Beyond his clinic and lecturing roles, he contributes to professional literature as a Deputy Editor for ‘The Podiatrist’ magazine.
